Think like a Rebel

The Project

The ‘Think like a Rebel’ pilot project supported some of our most disadvantaged students in eight schools in Plymouth, Devon and Somerset. The project was delivered by Rebel Business school on behalf of Heart of the South West Careers hub and was funded by The Careers and Enterprise Company.

Aims of the project:

The pilot project tested the value of using entrepreneurship to re-engage, realise and release potential.

Students in Years 9, 10 and 11 focussed on the Rebel skills that are needed to be successful in life:

  •       Think like a Rebel
  •       Fail like a Rebel
  •       Choose like a Rebel
  •       Aim like a Rebel
  •       Create like a Rebel
  •       Grow like a Rebel

By completing three workshops, Passion, People and Power, students completed lots of practical activities such as, exploring what made them unique and what their values were, right through how to positively and successfully engage with different people.

Impacts and outcomes

Students had increased confidence and build skills for work.

Students engaged positively with the sessions, with many school staff commenting on how well students engaged and how long they engaged for.

Students with existing business ideas were able to start marketing their business idea and engage with future audiences.

Staff requested the project to be run again – seeing entrepreneurship and the skills that are built during the sessions as needed in the school setting

Increased interest in business and self-employment
