WELCOME TO

SOMERSET CAREERS HUB

The Somerset Careers Hub, established in collaboration with The Careers and Enterprise Company to help transform careers education for young people across Somerset.

We work with every state-funded secondary school, special educational needs school, alternative provision & post 16 college across Somerset, as well as Independent  SEND schools with Section 41 status,  to deliver high quality careers support for students.   We also work with Primary schools, delivering our Dream Big Somerset Project helping to break down stereotypes to ensure primary aged young people have a positive start to their careers education journey.

We also work with employers, independent  training providers,  universities and career professionals to help to deliver the Gatsby Benchmarks and to ensure that all young people are able to identify their best next step.

The Careers Hub  plays a critical role in supporting local skills development plans,  understanding current and future job markets and feeding that intelligence into education.

We work closely with our colleagues in the Careers & Pathways Team, The Somerset Education Business Partnership and The Supported Employment Team to deliver on all things careers for young people across Somerset.  Our key focuses are supporting our schools with the refined Gatsby Benchmarks and preparing for the modernisation of work experience, with an increase to 50 hours work experience by the end of Year 11 becoming legislative for the 26/27 academic year.

Somerset Careers Hub Go-Pro Challenge!

🎉 Huge congratulations to the pupils from 3 Dimensions in Chard with first prize and Fairmead School and Fiveways School, who were awarded runnerup prizes in this year’s Somerset Careers Hub GoPro Challenge!

Our Operational Hub Lead, Jenny Salmon, was proud to present the awards and celebrate the pupils’ fantastic creativity.

The challenge? We invited learners to submit short, career-focused videos—up to 3 minutes long, that showcased their skills, creativity, and aspirations with a focus on the learners’ perspective.
Using their GoPro Action Camera that showcases careers education in action at the school — and they absolutely nailed it!

Their videos brilliantly captured their work experience activities and showcased careers education in action across their schools.

Thank you to everyone who took part – we are incredibly proud of our SEND young people in Somerset and look forward to creating even more opportunities for them to share their talents and truly shine!
